Why America Will Never Be Green

America will never be able to go much greener than it is now and I'm about to tell you why. First though, let me say it's sad. Very sad. And pathetic. I am just as guilty as everyone else which is why I feel comfortable calling people out.
Depending on the weather and circumstance I either walk to work or take public transportation. I take the public transportation not out of environmental concern but because it's the most practical for me. On the days I walk the three miles or so I can share with you a single observation: I feel left out. I think "everyone else gets to drive, why don't I just drive·" Sure, I'd get to work in the same amount of time whether I walked or drove but the fact that there are other people who live equally far, or closer, that drive really irritates me.
People, myself very much included, never want to feel excluded and the fact of the matter is that for the US to go "green" it requires sacrifices and unlike in WWII, not everyone will make those sacrifices. And because not everyone is willing to make them, EVERYONE is going to feel like they're just as entitled as everyone else to destroy the environment...so we will.
I'm still not going to drive to work but I wish people would just suck it up and take one for the team.
