Gas Crunch: COPS style

According to Newsday, Utah deputies have been told to limit their daily mileage. Apparently the state is paying over $25,000/m in gas. I'm not an economist or lawmaker (thankfully) but wouldn't you want to cut corners somewhere other than in your ability to pursue a criminal·
